Del.icio.us - Thing 13

In August there was a Golden Delicious apple tree near my grandmother's house. They were the most wonderful-tasting apples ever, juicy and sweet. All summer we would make do with eating green Macintoshes with salt. We never ate the the Golden Delicious green for some reason. We (my brother, cousins and I) would sit around and pass the salt shaker. Those were halcyon days.

Whenever I see the word delicious, I think of apples. Del.icio.us is another product I can willingly embrace. Being a multi-computer user, I see several opportunities to use this.

HAPPY FOURTH!!

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to ride The Beast with my favorite young lady. It was the first time I saw the Statue of Liberty. It was truly an inspiring sight. She has symbolized so much Hope to so many. When the chaos that was 9-11 was happening, I feared for Miss Liberty. In elementary school chorus we sang  Emma Lazarus' poem. It gave me goose bumps then and I still get them now.

My ancestors never met Lady Liberty. They were either here as a result of the Great Migration, possibly Highland clearances, or potato famine. They came here because lack of opportunities and hardship made them face the unknown and start a new life.

Today there are still individuals and families wanting to make that decision. I guess there has to be a limit somewhere, but the US is still the Land of Opportunity. When I lived in Belize, there was not a family whose income was not supplemented by someone in the States, either legally or not. Not all peoples entering are criminals or wanting to do us harm. Most are hard working and just want better lives for them and their families. From my and my family's experience, many would prefer to stay in their mother/fatherland, because one is attached to the country where he was raised.

Forgive my rambling, but this day is for celebration. We've been having magnificent weather for the past few days, backyard bar-b-qs are happening, parades and fireworks will be spectacular.

Have a Glorious Fourth!!

PS: As my son reminds me our family were Loyalists and sometimes we just can't get that excited about American independence.

This is Scarry

I'm not a writer. I really have an aversion to even writing letters or E-mails to friends and family. I blame elementary school where I received no encouragement to write. I used to have papers returned to me with big red AWKWARD or RUN ON written on them. I keep wondering if any teacher could have found something redeeming in my writing to compliment, maybe I wouldn’t avoid it like the plague. I did well, not superbly, in English – always in the high sections because I could read and had excellent grammar and spelling skills.

I went into science partly because there would not be as much writing. Also writing scientific papers is different than essays.
I am grateful to the library for giving me the Impetus to tackle this exercise. I have been reading blogs for a few years, and sometimes commenting on them. I never thought I would be doing one, but somewhere in the back of my mind I would like to give it a try.

I never knew there were so many writers trying to find a voice. This technology makes everything seem so easy, and voices to be heard all over the world.
Writing my thoughts is scary not like Richard.
